What should I bring?
The expedition company you choose should provide you with a packing list. However, to give you a general idea of what you need, read on:
- Waterproof-breathable jacket and pants (some companies provide you with parkas so check with your expedition company before purchasing new gear)
- Insulated rubber boots (some companies provide you with boots, so check with your expedition company before purchasing)
- Down jacket
- Warm mid-layer (fleece, wool, etc)
- Warm hat
- Gloves
- Neckwarmer
- Insulating baselayers (Merino wool, synthetic moisture-wicking fabrics, etc)
- Socks (wool, synthetic moisture-wicking fabrics, etc)
- Casual clothing for the ship
- Casual shoes for the ship (sandals, slippers, flip flops, high heels are not recommended to protect your safety)
- Bathing suit (for an Antarctic swim!)
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen (30+) and lip balm with SPF
- Camera, Camera charger, extra batteries, extra memory cards, tripod, waterproof bag for camera.
- Water bottle
- Personal hygiene products
- Medications (for daily use, prescriptions, sea-sickness)
- Note: Towels and sheets are provided by the ship. Hairdryers, shampoo and soap are also usually provided.
